My First Paid Gig Was A Wedding (And It Was the Best Risk I Ever Took)
If you’ve ever taken a leap of faith into something you love, you’ll understand exactly how I felt the day I booked my first paid photography gig— a wedding. Yep, that’s right. My very first real paid job as a photographer wasn’t a mini session or a family shoot. It was a full-blown wedding day. Not a small wedding or elopement, I’m talking 6+hours of coverage at a beautiful location in Celebration, FL, big reception, large guest list, the whole deal!
Looking back, I’m honestly not sure if I was brave… or just blissfully unaware of how wild that was.
I still remember getting that message from a sweet couple who loved my work and wanted me to capture their big day. My heart dropped into my stomach. I hadn’t even officially launched my business yet. Just a girl with a camera and a passion for capturing moments. But something in me said yes, even though every nervous cell in my body screamed, “Are you sure about this?”
The Risk That Changed Everything
If you’re a new photographer, you know the mental spiral: What if I mess up? What if I miss the first kiss? What if the lighting is bad and my photos look awful?
I had all those thoughts and then some. But I also knew that if I wanted to grow, if I really wanted to do this for real, I couldn’t wait for the “perfect moment” to start. Spoiler alert: that moment never comes.
So, I said yes. I prepped like my life depended on it. I scouted the location, practiced shooting in different lighting, packed backup memory cards like I was going to war, and basically lived on coffee and YouTube tutorials for months straight.
And you know what? It went beautifully. I didn’t miss a moment.
What I Learned from Photographing My First Wedding
That day taught me more about photography and myself, than any class or workshop ever could.
I learned how to think on my feet (because weddings don’t pause for retakes).
I learned how to direct people confidently, even when my voice wanted to shake.
I learned that being calm, patient, and observant matters more than having the fanciest gear.
Most importantly, I learned that I love weddings. There’s just something about the energy, the emotions, and the tiny unscripted moments that make every one of them so unique.
The Payoff
That first wedding was the start of everything. It led to referrals, friendships, and the confidence to turn photography from a dream into Laura Jessica Photography.
Now, years later, I look back at those first images with pride. Sure, I’ve grown a ton since then. My editing style evolved, my posing improved, and my gear got fancier, but the heart behind my work hasn’t changed one bit.
Taking that risk was the best decision I ever made. It taught me that sometimes the scariest opportunities are the ones that change your life the most.
If you’re reading this as a new photographer wondering if you’re ready, here’s your sign: you probably are. You just need to take that first leap.
And if you’re a couple looking for someone who’s all heart and a little fearless behind the lens, well, that’s me.
Why you should get engagement photos
So you are newly engaged and your calendar already looks like a wedding to-do list exploded. Venue tours, dress shopping, Pinterest boards that grow by the hour. With all that, it is tempting to look at engagement photos and think do we really need them? I get it. But as a photographer here in Orlando who has worked with countless couples, I am here to tell you that engagement photos are not just a luxury. They are one of the smartest investments you can make before your wedding day. Let me show you why.
It is Your Practice Run in Front of the Camera
Most people are not models. They get nervous when a lens is pointed at them and wonder what to do with their hands. Your engagement session is like a rehearsal for the big day. You learn how to pose without feeling stiff, how to laugh naturally, and how to be yourselves in front of the camera. By the time your wedding day arrives, you will already know how I work, and you will feel confident instead of awkward.
You Capture This Unique Season of Life
You will only be engaged once (I’m hoping). This season is short but it is filled with excitement, anticipation, and a kind of joy that deserves to be documented. Wedding photos capture your marriage celebration, but engagement photos capture the becoming. Years from now when you look back, these photos will remind you not just of how you looked, but how you felt in this chapter. It’s also an addition to your collection of photos that you have with your significant other, and honestly, who doesn’t want that?
Engagement Photos Make Your Wedding Run Smoother
Couples who have an engagement session with me always feel more relaxed on their wedding day. They already know how I direct, they know my little tricks for getting genuine laughs, and they trust me. That trust is huge when we are on a tight wedding timeline and need to nail portraits quickly. Instead of learning how to work together on your wedding day, you walk in like pros and get this thing DONE!
Endless Uses for Engagement Photos
Think about all the ways you can actually use these photos. Save the date cards. Wedding websites. Guest books. Custom décor at the reception, printouts to put up in your home, social media for years to come. Even framed gifts for your family. And let’s be honest, you will want fresh beautiful photos of the two of you that are not taken on an iPhone in bad lighting (I don’t care how good the new iPhones are, people can tell the difference).
Orlando Engagement Sessions are Magic
Orlando is bursting with amazing backdrops for engagement photography. From the charm of Winter Garden to the mossy oaks at Lake Runnymede to the elegance of Rollins College and the dreamy sunsets at Lake Louisa State Park. I know the hidden gems and the best times of day for each location. That means your photos will not look like every other couple’s, they will look like you.
Why Choose Me as Your Photographer
Here is the part where I get real. You do not just need someone with a nice camera. You need someone who can pull out your authentic personalities, make you laugh when you feel awkward, and guide you with poses that feel natural instead of stiff or forced. That is where I come in. I bring years of experience photographing couples in Orlando and I know how to create images that are both timeless and fun. My sessions feel like a date with a third wheel who happens to know exactly how to get your best angles. I keep things simple and stress free. I’ll always listen to your ideas and input, because your session should feel like you.
Final Word
Engagement photos are worth it because they prepare you, they celebrate you, and they give you memories of this chapter you will never relive again. If you are planning your wedding in Orlando, let me capture your engagement first. You will gain confidence in front of the camera, you will have stunning images to use leading up to your wedding, and you will walk into your big day knowing you have a photographer who already feels like part of your story.
Your engagement is worth celebrating. Let’s capture it together.
Why You Should Print Your Photos
We live in a digital world. Our phones are filled with thousands of snapshots, our computers hold folders of family memories, and our social media feeds are a highlight reel of our lives. But here’s the truth; digital files aren’t forever. Technology changes, hard drives fail, phones get lost, and in a blink, those memories could disappear. That’s why printing your photos is so important.
Digital Memories Can Fade
Think back to the floppy disk or the CD. At one time, they were the best way to store files. Now, most computers don’t even have a place to read them. The same thing can happen to today’s storage methods. Even if you back up your photos in the cloud, accounts can get hacked or shut down. The reality is, digital formats may not stand the test of time the way a printed photo can.
Prints Turn Memories Into Heirlooms
A printed photograph is something you can hold, frame, and pass down to future generations. When your children grow up, they’re not going to look through your old hard drives. They’ll flip through photo albums, smile at the framed portraits on the wall, and hold those memories in their hands. Prints transform fleeting digital moments into tangible keepsakes that carry emotion, history, and love.
The Joy of Displaying Your Story
Printed photos bring life into your home. Whether it’s a canvas on your living room wall, a collection of framed images in a hallway, or a coffee table album filled with your favorite sessions, these pieces remind you daily of the moments and people who matter most. They aren’t hidden on a screen, they’re part of your story, displayed proudly in your space. I have some of my own personal work printed. I have photos of my children my partner, and long-distance family members who I miss all over my house and I look at them pretty much every day!
Why Professional Prints Matter
Professional photographers, like me, don’t just capture your story, we also ensure it’s preserved beautifully. Printing through a professional lab means colors are accurate, the paper and materials are archival-quality, and your images will last for generations. It’s not the same as printing at a drugstore or big-box retailer. Your memories deserve the very best.
Don’t Let Your Memories Live in the Cloud
At the end of the day, photos are meant to be seen, touched, and treasured, not just stored. When you invest in professional photography, give those images the life they deserve by turning them into prints, albums, or wall art that you and your family can enjoy every single day.
Ready to Turn Your Photos Into Heirlooms?
If you’ve been meaning to print your photos, now is the perfect time. I offer high-quality albums, canvases, and prints that are designed to last a lifetime. Let’s turn your memories into something you can hold close, display proudly, and pass down for generations.

Life as a Special Needs Photographer: Why Patience and Compassion Matter
Photography is so much more than just clicking a button, it’s about capturing the heart of a moment, the personality of a child, and the love of a family. For families with children who have special needs, the experience of being photographed can feel overwhelming. That’s where patience and compassion come in, and why I’ve made it my mission to create a safe, joyful space for every child in front of my lens.
A Personal Perspective
This part of my work is deeply personal to me. As a mom of a child on the autism spectrum, I understand firsthand the challenges that come with new environments, unfamiliar faces, sensory sensitivities, and the unpredictability of a photo session. I know what it’s like to worry about whether or not my child cooperate? Will they smile? Will they be understood? Are we being a burden?
These aren’t just abstract questions to me. They’re ones I’ve asked myself as a parent many, many times. That’s why I approach every family I photograph with empathy, flexibility, and patience. I see your child for who they are, not for how still they sit or how long they smile at the camera.
Why Patience Makes All the Difference
Every child is unique, and some need more time to warm up. That’s why I build extra time into my sessions, allow kids to take breaks, and let them explore the environment at their own pace. There’s no “rush” with me, because genuine smiles and true personalities can’t be forced.
I also adapt to each child’s comfort level. Sometimes that means photographing while they play, sometimes it means letting them hold a favorite toy, and other times it means being silly right alongside them to earn a grin. The key is patience, meeting kids where they are, instead of asking them to conform to a rigid plan.
Compassion Creates Comfort
Compassion is the bridge between the photographer and the family. I know how important it is for parents to feel supported during a session, too. I reassure families that meltdowns are okay, that laughter counts as much as stillness, and that the little in-between moments often make the best photos.
I don’t care if your little one has a meltdown, I don’t care if we take longer than planned. It’s okay!!! Life’s hard enough without someone else making you feel guilty or rushed. Feeling like a burden is the worst feeling in the world, so I want my clients to know that they are safe with me.
When families leave a session feeling relieved, encouraged, and seen. That’s when I know I’ve done my job. The photos are beautiful, yes, but the experience is just as important.
Why This Work Matters
Photography is about more than images, it’s about memories. Families with special needs children deserve portraits that reflect the joy, resilience, and individuality of their stories.
Some of my favorite photoshoots have been with families of neurodivergent children. I have witnessed parents cry tears of joy when they saw their images. I have seen parents laugh and play with their children, creating beautiful memories because they felt comfortable enough to truly have fun in front of my camera. That trust and comfort is why they return to me whenever they need photos. Together, we share nothing but joy and giggles during our sessions, and those families are the heart of why I do what I do.

In-Home Lifestyle Sessions: A Beautiful, Personal Option for Family Photography in Central Florida
When it comes to photography, location can completely shape the story your images tell. While outdoor spots like beaches, parks, and scenic fields in Central Florida are classic choices for a reason, there’s another option that’s just as meaningful — your own home.
In-home lifestyle sessions are about capturing your family in a place that already holds so many memories. It’s a beautiful way to document the everyday moments that matter most, and it might be something you’ve never considered.
It’s Where Real Life Happens
Your home isn’t just a backdrop. It’s where your memories are made. From your morning coffee ritual to messy toddler toys and snuggles on the couch, those little moments are the ones that tell your story.
In-home lifestyle sessions focus on those natural, everyday interactions. Whether it’s baking in the kitchen, reading bedtime stories, or hanging out in the backyard, these sessions feel personal because they are. And later, when you look back at those images, you’ll be glad you documented life exactly as it was.
No Stress About the Weather
If you’ve spent any time in Orlando or Kissimmee, you know the weather likes to keep us guessing. An in-home sessiontakes the stress out of rescheduling for rain or battling the heat in the middle of summer.
It also makes a great option for newborn sessions or young kids who might be more comfortable in their own familiar space.
No Driving Involved
Does the sound of wrangling the kids (and let’s be honest, sometimes dad too) into the car for a photoshoot already feel exhausting? Because, same. That’s one of the reasons I love offering in-home lifestyle sessions. You don’t have to leave the house. No packing bags, no making sure everyone’s shoes match, and no last-minute car seat battles. You get to stay right where you’re comfortable while I come to you. If that’s not a win, I truly don’t know what is.
Kids and Pets Are Comfortable
One of the biggest benefits of an in-home lifestyle session is how naturally relaxed it feels, especially for little ones and pets. They’re surrounded by their toys, favorite spots, and familiar routines. That comfort leads to genuine smiles, silly moments, and the kind of connection you can’t always capture in a brand-new location.
Every Home Tells a Story
Your home doesn’t have to be picture-perfect to photograph beautifully. The goal of lifestyle photography isn’t perfection, it’s authenticity. Whether it’s the artwork your kids taped to the fridge or the sunlight hitting your living room just right, those details make your photos truly yours.
These images become snapshots of a chapter in your life you’ll be glad to look back on years down the road.
It’s Another Beautiful Option
In-home lifestyle sessions aren’t meant to replace outdoor photos. They’re simply a different way to capture your family’s story. Some families love to mix both, scheduling a cozy, candid in-home session one year and an outdoor adventure the next.
It’s all about documenting what matters most to you, in a way that feels natural and true to your family’s personality.
Book Your In-Home Lifestyle Session in Kissimmee or Orlando
If you’re interested in adding an in-home lifestyle session to your family’s photo story, I’d love to chat with you. These sessions are available throughout Kissimmee, Orlando, and surrounding Central Florida areas.
Reach out anytime to schedule yours or ask questions about what to expect. Whether it’s at home, in a park, or by the water, my job is to help capture your family’s story in a way that feels personal and meaningful to you.
Why Photography Is Good for Mental Health: A Personal Perspective
In a world that moves a little too fast, where our to-do lists seem endless and our minds never really stop racing, finding something that grounds you is more important than ever. For me, that something has always been photography. But I’m not just talking about taking pictures for clients or business , I’m talking about the simple, everyday act of picking up a camera and seeing the world through a different lens (literally and figuratively).
And it turns out, photography is really good for your mental health. Here’s why.
It Forces You to Slow Down and Be Present
One of the beautiful things about photography is that it asks you to pause and notice things you might have overlooked. The way the sunlight hits a leaf, the genuine laugh of a child, the tiny details that usually blur into the background.
When you have a camera in hand, whether it’s your phone, a point-and-shoot, or a professional setup, you become an observer. You're pulled into the moment. And being present, even for a few minutes, is a powerful way to combat anxiety and stress. It’s mindfulness in motion.
Creative Expression Is Therapy
Photography is a form of storytelling. It allows you to express feelings and perspectives that might be hard to put into words. Ever had a tough day and found yourself scrolling through old photos or capturing a quiet sunset, feeling a little lighter afterward? That’s no coincidence.
Creative outlets, like photography, give us a safe space to release emotions, process experiences, and sometimes even rediscover beauty in the everyday. It’s not about taking perfect pictures, it’s about creating something meaningful to you.
A Reason to Get Outside (and We All Need That)
Let’s be honest, sometimes we just need a little excuse to get out of the house. Photography offers that nudge. Whether it’s a walk around your neighborhood, a trip to a nearby park, or chasing golden hour light in Central Florida (which, by the way, is phenomenal), photography motivates you to move, explore, and reconnect with nature.
Spending time outdoors has been proven to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Combine that with the meditative act of taking photos, and you’ve got yourself a double dose of natural mood-boosters.
It Helps Build Connections
As a photographer, I’ve met so many wonderful people through this craft — clients, fellow creatives, and even strangers who stop to chat while I’m photographing a scene. Photography has this magical way of breaking down social barriers.
Even if you’re shy or introverted, sharing your photos online or joining a photography group can open doors to conversations and friendships you never expected.
It Lets You See Progress, Which Is So Good for Self-Esteem
I remember looking back at my first photography projects and feeling both a little embarrassed and a lot proud. Watching yourself improve at something, no matter how small the steps, is a huge confidence booster.
Photography offers tangible proof of your growth. You capture moments, look back months later, and realize how your eye, technique, and creativity have evolved. That sense of accomplishment? It’s like fuel for your soul.
A Personal Note
Photography has carried me through some of my hardest seasons. It’s given me a reason to leave the house when I didn’t want to, a way to document the good moments when I needed reminders they existed, and a healthy outlet for creative energy when my head felt too crowded.
It’s more than a job, it’s a lifeline. And I genuinely believe anyone can benefit from picking up a camera, no matter their skill level.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need expensive gear or fancy editing software to experience the mental health benefits of photography. You just need curiosity, a willingness to look a little closer, and the freedom to capture what speaks to you.
So the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, restless, or a little blue, grab your camera or phone, step outside, and start snapping. Your mind (and your heart) will thank you.
P.S. If you’re ever looking for someone to photograph your story here in Central Florida — or if you just want to talk cameras and creativity, you know where to find me. ✨
How to Survive Your Summer Outdoor Photoshoot in Florida
Hey there, sunshine seekers! 🌞 I’m Laura, your friendly neighborhood family photographer based right here in Central Florida, and today I’m diving into a topic that’s near and sweaty to my heart: preparing for an outdoor photoshoot during a Florida summer.
Now listen, I love my home state. The palm trees, the beaches, the endless sunshine. But let’s be honest… Florida in the summer is like stepping into a sauna with a blow dryer in your face. Add in some humidity that could steam broccoli and mosquitoes the size of small birds, and well, it makes for some challenges when it comes to outdoor photoshoots.
But don’t worry, with the right prep and a little know-how (that I’ve picked up over years of shooting here), you can have an amazing, beautiful, and yes, comfortable photo session, even in the dead of July. So grab a cold drink and let’s get into it!
Why Timing is EVERYTHING!
If you take nothing else from this blog post, please remember this: the time of day you schedule your session matters so much more than you realize.
I’ve had people request sessions at 1:00 PM in August and let me tell you, it’s not pretty. The sun is high, the shadows are harsh, everyone’s makeup is melting, and nobody wants to cuddle for those cute family shots when you’re sticking to each other like Velcro.
The best times to book your summer outdoor photoshoot in Florida are:
Golden Hour (about an hour after sunrise or an hour before sunset) The light is soft, golden, and flatters every skin tone. Plus, it’s significantly cooler.
Early morning (before 9 AM) The air is fresher, the bugs are quieter, and you might even catch a little morning mist.
Avoid mid-day sessions (11 AM – 3 PM) like the plague — unless you’re aiming for the “I just ran a marathon” look.
Personal tip: Some of my most magical sessions have happened right at sunrise. I know it sounds early, but there’s something kind of peaceful about having the beach or a park to yourself in that soft, dewy morning light.
How to Keep Cool Without Losing Your Cool
Yes, it’s hot, but there are ways to beat the heat and still look fabulous:
Clothing Tips:
Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics. Think cotton, linen, or gauze. Avoid heavy materials and dark colors (unless you’re going for moody vibes, and even then, consider how much heat you’re trapping).
Loose, flowy outfits not only feel better but photograph beautifully. I adore dresses with movement, linen button-ups, and soft fabrics that catch the breeze.
Bring backup outfits if you’re prone to sweating. A quick change can be a lifesaver.
Stick to light, neutral, or soft pastel colors. They reflect sunlight better and keep you cooler.
Beauty Prep:
Opt for waterproof and sweat-resistant makeup. Trust me, you’ll thank me.
Blotting papers and a handheld fan (or one of those misting fans) are your best friends.
Hydrate like crazy. Bring a bottle of cold water for each person, and yes, it’s okay to take breaks. I want you to be safe and comfortable.
Location, Location, Location
Some spots are better suited for summer sessions than others. Shady parks, tree-lined streets, or locations with covered areas (gazebos, porches, or canopied trails) can be lifesavers.
Great Central Florida spots for summer shoots:
Kraft Azalea Garden (Winter Park)
Lake Runnymede Conservation Area (Saint Cloud)
Cypress Grove Park
I always help my clients pick locations that not only match their style but also offer comfort and shade options for those sizzling days.
Paying Attention to Lighting
Harsh summer sun can do a number on your photos if you're not careful. Midday sun creates intense shadows under the eyes and nose and makes it tricky to capture soft, flattering images.
What I do as your photographer:
I always scout for shaded spots or use natural reflectors (like light-colored walls or sandy paths) to bounce beautiful, even light onto your face.
I schedule sessions during those golden, dreamy hours.
I position you with the sun behind or to the side of you to avoid squinting and harsh shadows.
Bonus Pro Tips for a Successful Summer Photoshoot
Bug Spray is your buddy. Florida mosquitoes don’t mess around.
Bring a towel or wipes for quick dabs and touch-ups.
Pack a cooler in your car with ice water and snacks.
Embrace the casual vibe. Summer sessions are perfect for barefoot beach walks, candid family picnics, and chasing little ones through a park sprinkler.
Don't stress about perfect hair. A little wind or beachy wave looks natural and relaxed in photos. Florida humidity has its own plans , we might as well roll with it.
Final Thoughts from a Florida Photographer Who's Been There
I’ve photographed families melting under the sun, couples sneaking off for shade breaks, and kids turning red as tomatoes during park sessions, and through it all, I’ve learned that the best photos happen when you’re comfortable, relaxed, and having fun.
We can’t control the Florida heat, but we can plan smartly and create beautiful images while staying safe and cool. I promise to guide you every step of the way, from choosing the perfect location and time to helping you style breathable outfits and scheduling plenty of hydration breaks.

Early Morning Photoshoots in Kissimmee & Orlando: Why 8AM is the Secret to Stunning Family Portraits
Let’s be honest, waking up before the sun rises for a family photoshoot probably doesn’t sound like your idea of a fun morning. The thought of rolling out of bed at 5AM, getting everyone dressed and out the door (without a meltdown) might feel... exhausting already. But hear me out. When it comes to outdoor family photography in Kissimmee and Orlando, those early hours are pure magic. Stunning. Gorgeous. Everything! I promise you, you won’t regret it.
From dreamy golden light to cooler temps and a break from Florida’s infamous afternoon rain, there are some pretty compelling reasons to trade in the snooze button for that 8AM time slot. Whether you're a local or visiting Central Florida on vacation, a morning session might just be the best decision you make for your photos (and your comfort!).
The Lighting is Absolutely Gorgeous
If you’ve ever heard a photographer swoon over “golden hour,” this is what we’re talking about…but in the morning! An 8AM photoshoot means soft, flattering light that wraps your family in a natural glow. There’s less harsh shadowing, no squinting into the sun, and your photos end up with that dreamy, light-filled look that’s hard to beat.
This soft lighting is especially perfect for family portraits in Kissimmee’s outdoor spaces like lakefront parks, open fields, or even resort backdrops near Disney and Universal. And it’s especially stunning for beach photos!!
It’s the kind of light that makes skin tones look beautiful, details pop, and the whole photo feel timeless.
Beat the Florida Heat (and the Meltdowns!)
Let’s face it. Florida summers can be brutal. By 11AM, the sun is blazing, the humidity is climbing, and kids (and adults!) are getting cranky fast. An 8AM start means you’ll be wrapped up before the real heat hits and you can go on and enjoy the rest of your day without planning it around a photoshoot.
Plus, your little ones are typically well-rested and in better spirits in the morning, giving us a better chance at those genuine smiles and playful interactions. Also, who wants sweat rolling down their faces in family photos?
Dodge the Rainy Season Drama
Anyone who's spent a summer in Central Florida knows that afternoon thunderstorms are practically a daily occurrence. And they always seem to show up just when you're about to start your outdoor session. I took a Family out a few weeks ago to Cypress Grove Park in Orlando. A gorgeous park where the lighting is always stunning, however this time it wasn’t so stunning. All day the weather was fine and then as soon as we arrived at the park, the skies opened up.
By choosing an early morning shoot, you're avoiding that gamble entirely. The sky is clearer, the parks and public spaces are quieter, and we’re not rushing to beat the storm clouds. It’s a calmer, smoother experience for everyone.
Quieter Locations, Better Experience
Popular spots in Orlando and Kissimmee can get crowded quickly, especially near attractions, scenic parks, or vacation resorts. When we shoot early, we often get these beautiful locations all to ourselves. No tourists wandering into the background, no photo-bombing strangers, just you and your family in a peaceful, beautiful setting.
This is especially great for shy kiddos or sensory-sensitive children who do better without lots of noise and distractions. The quieter environment allows them to warm up more comfortably, making for more natural, relaxed photos. Also, overstimulated adults, I know you’re out there.
So… Is It Really Worth the Early Wake-Up?
Absolutely. A little bit of planning (and maybe some extra coffee) can make a huge difference in your family photography experience. Morning sessions offer the best lighting, cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and a far more relaxed pace. All of which lead to gorgeous, lasting images you'll treasure forever.
If you’re planning a family vacation near Disney or Universal Studios or you're a local in Kissimmee or Orlandolooking for beautiful outdoor portraits, consider giving that early morning timeslot a chance. You might be surprised at how much you love the results! I would say I get way better feedback off clients when we do an early morning session. Clients love the results of an early morning session vs mid-morning or early-evening.

Your Home (Or rental)
If you’re from out of town and simply too tired or too overwhelmed to drive to a location, I’m totally down for an in-home, lifestyle-type photoshoot at your rental. In fact, I do that a lot, mainly for large families who are renting an Airbnb and have had a long few days at the theme parks and do not wish to drive more than they have to. It may not give off the same outdoorsy or urban vibe as some of the other locations but it’s something we can rock! No time limits, more flexibility on booking because we aren’t avoiding the sun. It's a fun and it’s an easy option. Easier for little ones, meaning, easier for the grown ones!
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this post. I hope that at least one of these locations speak to you. If not, don’t worry, I have more locations up my sleeve.
The Power of Your Outfit: How What You Wear Can Transform Your Photoshoot
Hey there, beautiful! I’m so excited that you’re considering a photoshoot with me. Whether you’re planning a family session, a personal portrait, a couple’s shoot, or anything in between, there’s one thing I can’t stress enough: what you wear really does matter.
Now, I get it. When you think about preparing for a photoshoot, you probably start imagining the perfect location, the right lighting, and maybe even the best pose. But there’s a huge element that plays a key role in how your photos will turn out—your outfit. So, let’s talk about it!
Why Your Outfit Matters
Clothing isn’t just fabric on your body. It tells a story, sets a mood, and speaks volumes about your personality. When you choose the right outfit for your photoshoot, it helps capture the essence of who you are in a way that transcends just the picture itself. Think of your clothing as the final touch that makes your photos feel complete, authentic, and full of life.
I want your photos to feel like you—whether you're vibrant and playful, relaxed and serene, or bold and confident. The right outfit will enhance that energy, making the entire photoshoot experience come to life in ways you might not even expect!
Your Comfort = Confidence
Here’s a little secret: When you feel comfortable in what you're wearing, your confidence shines through. And confidence? Well, it’s the best accessory you can have in any photo. There’s something magical about being in clothes that make you feel good. When you're relaxed and feeling like the best version of yourself, it’s instantly visible in your photos. And trust me, as your photographer, I can tell the difference between someone who is comfortable and someone who’s trying too hard or feels out of place.
We want to make sure that whatever outfit you choose reflects your unique style and feels like you. If you’re not a fan of dresses but you love a pair of jeans and a cute top, then that’s exactly what you should wear! This is your moment to shine in your true self.
How Your Clothes Set the Tone
Whether it’s a serene beach shoot, a cozy session at home, or an adventurous hike, your clothing helps set the entire mood of the shoot. The right outfit can make a big impact on the overall feel of your photos.
Soft, neutral tones bring warmth and intimacy, creating a calm and timeless vibe.
Bold colors can infuse energy and create a fun, modern feel that’s perfect for lively, upbeat shoots.
Patterns and textures can add depth to your images, but we’ll keep them balanced so they don’t distract from your beautiful face.
Coordinating outfits with your family or partner can create a harmonious look, ensuring everyone complements each other without clashing, making your photos feel even more cohesive and polished!
I’ll work with you every step of the way to ensure we find the perfect outfit for your vision. Whether you need help deciding what to wear or just want some suggestions, I’m here for you. Together, we’ll figure out what works best for you.
Complementing Your Location
Another thing to think about is the location of your shoot. The setting can play a huge part in the style of clothing you choose. For example:
If we're shooting in a park or natural landscape, earthy tones or flowy fabrics can work wonders.
For an urban or street-style shoot, something more modern, sleek, and edgy might be just the vibe.
If you’re getting ready for a studio session, classic styles with neutral colors are always a winning choice.
I love collaborating with my clients to choose outfits that complement the environment we’re shooting in. The connection between your clothes and the surroundings can elevate your images and give them an effortlessly polished feel.
Trust Me, We’ve Got This!
I know it might feel overwhelming to pick the “perfect” outfit, but don’t worry! I’ll be here with you every step of the way to make sure you look and feel your absolute best. We can chat before the shoot about your preferences, your goals for the photos, and your wardrobe options. I can even offer some helpful tips on mixing and matching styles or colors if you need assistance!
Remember, the best photos are the ones that capture who you are, and we’re going to make that happen. So, take a deep breath, and let’s get excited about the magic we’re about to create. Together, we’ll craft beautiful, timeless images that you’ll cherish for years to come.
I can’t wait to work with you, help you feel your best, and create some gorgeous memories! Ready to get started? Reach out today, and let’s begin planning your perfect photoshoot!
Why Spring Photoshoots Are the Most Fun You'll Ever Have!
Ah, spring! The season of blooming flowers, soft sunlight, and the sweet scent of fresh grass in the air. It’s the time when everything seems to come alive, and what better way to celebrate this vibrant season than with a fun, fresh photoshoot? Whether you’re capturing family memories, marking a special milestone, or simply embracing the beauty of the season, spring photoshoots are all about joy, color, and magic.
Here’s why spring photoshoots are an absolute blast:
1. Nature is Your Playground
Springtime is like nature’s very own art studio, and the whole outdoors becomes your canvas. Think lush green parks, fields of wildflowers, cherry blossoms in full bloom, and trees wearing their freshest leaves. Everywhere you look, there’s a pop of color, making your photos look like they belong in a storybook.
Whether it’s lying in a field of daisies or running barefoot through a sunlit meadow, the natural beauty of spring makes for the most whimsical and breathtaking backdrops. And don’t even get us started on the golden hour—those soft, dreamy sunsets? Pure magic!
Location suggestion for floral-themed photoshoots: Mead Botanical Gardens in Winter Park.
2. The Weather is Perfect
Gone are the harsh winds of winter and the sticky heat of summer. Spring brings that perfect balance of warm sun and cool breezes, meaning you can comfortably wear your favorite outfits without worrying about sweating or freezing. You’ll be able to enjoy every moment of your photoshoot without worrying about the weather ruining the fun! In Florida, selecting the right weather is essential.
Plus, the diffused sunlight on a spring day gives photos that beautiful, soft glow. It’s like nature’s own Instagram filter, making everyone look effortlessly radiant.
3. Fun Fashion Choices
Spring fashion is all about expressing yourself through flowy dresses, vibrant colors, fun prints, and lightweight layers. It’s the season where you can get creative with your wardrobe and play around with your personal style.
Want to twirl in a floral dress? Go for it! Or maybe you’re more into a casual-chic vibe with a cute hat and a denim jacket. The options are endless, and spring photoshoots allow you to bring your fashion game to the next level.
4. Endless Activities to Get Creative With
Spring isn’t just about standing still and smiling at the camera. It’s the perfect season for interactive, fun activities that can add personality to your photos. From blowing bubbles to playing in the rain (hello, puddles!) to flying a kite or having a picnic, spring offers so many playful opportunities to get creative with your shoot.
The best part? You don’t have to pose the whole time! Movement makes photos so much more dynamic. Jumping, running, laughing, or just spinning around in circles—it’s all about having fun and capturing those authentic moments.
5. Perfect for All Kinds of Photoshoots
Whether you’re doing a couple’s shoot, a family session, a solo portrait, or even a maternity or newborn shoot, spring is the perfect time for any type of photoshoot. It’s a season that feels fresh and full of promise, making it ideal for marking a special milestone in your life.
Want to get your furry friend involved? Springtime is great for pet-friendly photoshoots too! With the world coming to life outside, your dog (or cat) will love running around in the fresh air, and you’ll love the candid shots of them having the time of their lives.
6. The Vibrant Color Palette
Nothing beats the lively colors of spring. From pastel pinks and yellows to deep blues and greens, the season’s palette adds a cheerful vibe to every shot. Your photos will pop with vibrant hues, and the colors of nature will complement your own wardrobe choices beautifully.
Imagine a field of tulips in the background, or a sun-kissed path lined with bright daffodils. The contrast of colors in spring is a photographer’s dream, and it will make your photos look absolutely stunning!
7. You’ll Be Smiling the Whole Time
Spring brings that infectious sense of joy and renewal, and it’s impossible not to be in a good mood while enjoying the outdoors. You’ll find yourself smiling naturally as you breathe in the fresh air and take in the beauty of everything around you. Those genuine, happy smiles are exactly what make spring photoshoots so special.
And trust us—those smiles will shine through in every photo, giving you memories that will last a lifetime!

Love in the Storm: A Wedding Day That Laughed in the Face of a Hurricane
Let’s talk about the wildest, most unforgettable wedding I’ve ever shot—because, oh yeah, it happened in the middle of a hurricane! While most people were hiding in their houses, this couple grabbed each other and said, ‘Let’s do this!’ Talk about making a stormy day iconic! Kit and Jesse? Oh, they’re basically VIPs in my world! These two (plus their ridiculously adorable boys) have been in front of my lens more times than I can count, and every session is pure magic. Getting to capture their big day? Absolute honor.
Their wedding at The Delamater House in New Smyrna was straight out of a dream. Definitely one of my favorite wedding venues to work. It’s a chef’s kiss kind of wedding venue! It’s got that perfect blend of rustic charm and timeless elegance—think dreamy oak trees, open-air spaces, and just the right touch of Southern romance. If you’re a couple who loves the outdoors but still wants a wedding that screams classy, this place is basically your fairytale come to life! The staff at this venue? Absolutely top-notch! They’re the kind of people who make wedding days run like a dream—friendly, helpful, and always a step ahead. Seriously, they’re the unsung heroes of the big day!
Alright, let’s get back to this whole hurricane situation. The storm hadn’t officially hit Central Florida yet—it was busy hovering over the Panhandle—but trust me, the wind and rain were already making their presence known. Most couples would’ve been stressing over the weather, but not Kit and Jessie. These two? Totally unbothered. The rain held off just long enough for a perfectly lit ceremony (seriously, we lucked out there), but by the time the reception rolled around, the skies decided to let loose. The party was safely indoors, but that didn’t stop these two from embracing the chaos—quite literally. A little outdoor adventure left them completely drenched, and they could not have cared less. Just pure joy, soaked clothes, and a night full of memories.
After years of capturing Kit and Jesse’s family moments, being there for their wedding felt extra special. Sure, I was technically working, but honestly? It felt more like celebrating with friends. These two are the real deal—meant for each other in every way—and the love and happiness that filled their day was on another level. I’ve photographed a lot of weddings, but this one? Unforgettable.
Enjoy these photos of the big day!!

Whether you’re a local or just visiting Central Florida, here are some creative and exciting photoshoot ideas to make your family session extra special.
1. Beach & Water Adventures
Orlando may not be on the coast, but we’re just a short drive from some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida! A beach photoshoot at Cocoa Beach, New Smyrna Beach, or Sarasota is a great way to embrace the carefree vibes of summer. Let the kids splash in the water, chase seagulls, and build sandcastles while I capture those genuine, joyful moments. Not up for a drive? Consider a lakeside session at one of Orlando’s scenic waterfront parks like Lake Baldwin, Lake Louisa, Saint Cloud Lakefront, or Chisholm Park.
2. Sunflower & Wildflower Fields
Spring and early summer bring gorgeous blooms to Central Florida. If you love vibrant colors, consider a family session in a sunflower or wildflower field! Places like Southern Hill Farms offer dreamy backdrops filled with golden hues and lush greenery. If you’re looking for more floral beauty, Mead Botanical Garden and Leu Gardens in Orlando provide stunning landscapes filled with seasonal blooms, lush pathways, and picturesque garden settings, making them excellent choices for a vibrant and elegant photoshoot.
3. Theme Park Magic

Whether it’s in front of Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom, wandering through the vibrant streets of Hollywood Studios, or capturing sweet moments at Universal’s CityWalk, these locations bring out the joy and wonder of childhood. Just keep in mind that certain areas require permission for professional photography, but there are plenty of ways to incorporate theme park magic into your session!
4. Picnic in the Park
A laid-back family picnic photoshoot is perfect for spring and summer! Pack a basket with your favorite snacks, a cozy blanket, and let’s head to a beautiful Orlando park like Lake Runnymede Conservation Area, Dickson Azalea Park, Langford T Park, or Kissimmee Lakefront Park. The relaxed setting allows for lots of laughter, natural smiles, and candid moments that truly capture your family’s personality.
5. Winter Park Charm & Urban Vibes
If you’re looking for a modern and stylish family photoshoot, Winter Park offers endless possibilities. Park Avenue’s cobblestone streets, boutique storefronts, and charming cafés create a picturesque backdrop. Central Park’s lush greenery, fountains, and colorful flower beds add a timeless elegance to your session. For a more relaxed, waterfront feel, consider capturing moments along the scenic shores of Lake Virginia or at Rollins College, where the historic architecture and beautiful gardens provide a stunning setting for family portraits.
6. Adventure Sessions – Kayaking, Biking & More!
For active families who love the outdoors, why not turn your session into a mini adventure? Wekiwa Springs, Kelly Park, and Blue Spring State Park offer crystal-clear waters, lush green landscapes, and an opportunity to capture your family enjoying Florida’s natural beauty. Kayaking, biking, or even a playful splash in the springs can turn a typical photoshoot into an unforgettable experience.
7. Sunset & Golden Hour Magic
No matter where we shoot, golden hour—the hour before sunset—is the best time for dreamy, glowing family photos. Whether it’s on the beach, at a park, or in your own backyard, the soft lighting makes everything look magical. How to Make Family Photos Inclusive and Stress-Free for Kids with Special Needs
Family photos are a cherished way to capture moments in time, celebrating love, connection, and growth. For families with children who have special needs, the idea of a photoshoot can come with unique considerations. Every child has their own way of experiencing the world, and with thoughtful preparation and the right approach, it’s entirely possible to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and included. Here are some tips to make your family photo experience stress-free and enjoyable for all.
1. Choose a Photographer Who Understands
Finding a photographer with experience working with children with special needs can make all the difference. They will understand the importance of patience, flexibility, and creating a sensory-friendly environment. When researching photographers, look for someone who communicates openly, listens to your concerns, and has a warm, empathetic approach. Having a little one with Autism, I really appreciate adults who have compassion and patience with her!
2. Plan Ahead and Communicate
Preparation is key for a successful photoshoot. Share important details with your photographer beforehand, such as:
Your child’s sensory sensitivities (e.g., noise, touch, or bright lights).
Any triggers or behaviors to avoid.
Things that make your child feel calm, happy, or safe.
Preferred poses or activities that align with your child’s comfort level.
This information allows the photographer to tailor the session to your family’s unique needs.
3. Pick the Right Location
The setting of your photoshoot can greatly impact your child’s comfort level. Consider:
Outdoor locations with open space, natural light, and minimal distractions.
Familiar spaces, such as your home or a favorite park, where your child feels at ease.
Quiet times of the day to avoid crowds and overstimulation.
4. Keep the Schedule Flexible
Rigid timelines can add unnecessary stress. It’s totally okay to ask your photographer for a quick break to decompress and re-fuel with snacks. We really don’t mind. If it helps the outcome of the photos and keeps everyone happy, we are all for it! Slow and steady wins the race!
5. Bring Comfort Items
Familiar objects, such as a favorite toy, blanket, or sensory tool, can provide reassurance and help your child feel secure. Incorporating these items into the session can also make the photos more personal and meaningful.
6. Focus on Authentic Moments
Rather than striving for perfectly posed pictures, embrace candid moments that reflect your family’s true dynamic. Let your child’s personality shine, whether that means playful laughter, a quiet hug, or a favorite activity. Most of my clients end up preferring the playful, candid photos over the posed ones.
7. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection
It’s important to approach the session with realistic expectations. Celebrate small victories, like a shared smile or a calm moment, rather than focusing on achieving a flawless outcome. Every photo will be a treasured memory because it’s a reflection of your unique family.
8. Create a Positive Experience
Before the session, talk to your child about what to expect and keep the mood light and positive. If possible, involve them in the planning process, such as picking out outfits or choosing props. Celebrate their participation and make the day feel like a fun family activity rather than a chore.
Let’s Create Lasting Memories Together
Family photos are about celebrating the beauty of your family, just as it is. With the right preparation and mindset, your session can be a joyful and inclusive experience that captures your family’s love and connection. Remember: You are not a burden. Your child is not a burden. I know what it’s like to worry about how my child’s behavior affects other people and I can promise you this, you will never need to feel that way during one of our sessions. I specialize in working with families of all kinds, including those with special needs. With years of experience and a deep understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorder, I create a compassionate and stress-free environment tailored to your family’s needs. Let’s work together to capture moments you’ll treasure forever.

Pose with Ease: The Secrets to Looking Effortlessly Natural in Photos
Have you ever looked at a photo of yourself and thought, “I don’t look like that!” or “I look so stiff!”? It’s not uncommon. Many people struggle with looking natural in photos, whether it’s for a professional headshot, family portraits, or an intimate couple’s session. But the truth is, how you pose can make a huge difference in how relaxed and natural you look.
As a photographer based in Kissimmee and Orlando, I've had the privilege of photographing people from all walks of life—families, couples, professionals—and one thing I’ve learned is that the psychology of posing plays a huge role in how people come across in photos. The goal is always the same: to help you look like yourself, but at your best. So, let’s break down the psychology behind posing and offer some tips that will help you feel confident, relaxed, and comfortable in front of the camera.
1. The Power of Posture: Stand Tall, but Stay Relaxed
You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Stand up straight!” but let’s break down why good posture matters in photos. When you stand tall, you appear more confident and poised, but it’s important not to overdo it. If you stand too stiffly, your body will look rigid, and you’ll feel tense, which translates to a less natural photo.
Tip:
Stand up straight with your shoulders back, but try to relax them. Imagine you’re pulling a string from the top of your head, elongating your spine. This gives you a strong but relaxed look.
Slightly shift your weight to one foot to avoid standing too “locked” in place. A little natural sway makes you look more comfortable and dynamic.
2. Posture and Expression: One Doesn’t Work Without the Other
How you carry your body often influences how you express yourself. It’s a feedback loop—the way you pose affects your facial expression, and vice versa. The key to looking natural is balance: relaxed body posture + authentic facial expression = a photograph that feels like you.
Tip:
For headshots, tilt your chin slightly down (not too much, just a tad) to elongate your neck and avoid the double chin effect. This gives you a flattering, approachable look.
When it comes to family photos or couple shoots, think about the mood you want to create. If it’s a playful session, think of something that makes you laugh—don’t force a smile. Genuine smiles are always more flattering than staged ones.
3. Hands: The Silent Poses That Speak Volumes
Hands often make people nervous, and we see it time and time again—clients who are unsure of what to do with their hands, leading them to awkward poses that don't feel natural. The key is to keep your hands relaxed and engaged, but not stiff.
Tip:
For couples: Rest your hand on your partner’s shoulder or waist, or hold hands in a natural way. If you're sitting, you can place your hand on your partner's knee or hold their hand with both of yours.
For solo shots: Keep one hand relaxed at your side, or place it in your pocket. If you're holding something (like a prop or accessory), make sure it feels like an extension of your personality, not just a filler.
For family sessions: Keep hands light and gentle—nothing too posed. A hand on a child’s shoulder or a playful touch is often enough to make the shot feel intimate.
4. Eyes: Where to Look and How to Feel
Where you look in a photo makes all the difference. In the world of photography, the eyes are often considered the "windows to the soul." If you're looking off into the distance with a blank stare, the photo might lack connection. On the other hand, if you're staring directly at the camera, it can sometimes feel intense.
Tip:
For headshots, a soft, direct gaze into the camera is powerful, but don't be afraid to add some warmth to your expression by slightly softening your eyes.
For couple or family portraits, look at each other—this will bring intimacy and connection to the photo. Alternatively, gazing at the horizon or around the scene can give a relaxed, candid feel. Just don't focus on a fixed point; let your eyes wander naturally.
Avoid wide eyes or over-exaggerated expressions; keep it subtle.
5. For Couples: The Dance of Connection and Space
In couple shoots, especially in places like Kissimmee or Orlando, where the backdrop is often romantic or scenic, the trick is to make the connection between the two of you feel natural. Sometimes clients worry about looking overly posed or "too in love," but the beauty lies in capturing the raw emotion that exists between the two of you.
Tip:
Cuddle in close, but avoid standing too rigidly. You want to be close, but not stiff. Leaning into each other or even a slight touch of hands can speak volumes.
If you're not sure what to do with your hands, try gentle touches—maybe place your hand on your partner’s arm, or rest it on their shoulder.
Sometimes the most natural shots happen when you're just walking together, looking at each other or talking, or enjoying a playful moment. Don’t be afraid to engage in light conversation during the shoot. The more relaxed you are, the more authentic your connection will look in the photos.
6. For Families: The Importance of Interaction
In family photography, particularly when there are kids involved, one of the main goals is to capture authentic, joyful moments. Kids often have a lot of energy, so trying to make them pose stiffly can feel unnatural. Instead, encourage fun interactions between family members—laughing, hugging, or even running around together.
Tip:
If the kids are young, let them be kids! Sometimes the best family shots happen when parents or siblings interact with them in playful ways, like lifting them, playing with their hair, or a gentle tickle.
Group shots can feel rigid if everyone is too focused on posing. Try to capture genuine moments of connection, whether it’s a parent holding a child’s hand or a sibling sharing a quiet, candid moment.
7. Relaxation is Key: Feeling Comfortable Equals Looking Comfortable
At the end of the day, looking natural in photos comes down to feeling comfortable. The more at ease you are, the more your photos will reflect that. Here’s where your photographer comes in. A good photographer is not just someone who clicks the shutter; they’re someone who guides you through the process, making you feel relaxed and confident. I try to keep my sessions fun and stress-free by always being in an upbeat mood and not so serious!
Tip:
Trust your photographer! In Kissimmee and Orlando, many of my clients are often visiting for vacation or special events, and they can feel stressed about getting the "perfect shot." Relax! Your photographer is there to help you look your best, and most photographers will offer light direction to make sure you feel confident and natural.
Don’t be afraid to ask for breaks during the session if you need to adjust. When you’re relaxed, that’s when your personality truly shines through.
Conclusion
Looking natural in photos is all about finding balance. By focusing on your posture, expression, and small gestures, you can bring out the best version of yourself—whether you're in a professional setting, at a family gathering, or sharing intimate moments with a loved one.
If you're planning a photoshoot in Kissimmee or Orlando, don’t stress about the “perfect pose.” Instead, think about enjoying the moment, staying relaxed, and letting your true self shine. After all, the best photos aren’t about perfection—they’re about capturing real emotion, real connection, and real you.

Capture Magic: My Favorite Sunset Locations for Unforgettable Photos in Central Florida
Hi friends :)
In my previous blog (You can read here) I shared some of my top photoshoot spots in Central Florida. But today, let’s really dig in and talk about my absolute favorite places to catch that golden hour magic! Sure, sunsets are easy to find around here, but these are the spots I swear by for getting those perfect, glowing golden hour portraits. Ready to dive in? Let’s go!
Cypress Grove Park in Orlando
Cypress Grove Park in Orlando is simply magical for golden hour photos! The park’s got this effortless, natural beauty—think lake views, lush greenery, and those dreamy oak trees draped in Spanish moss that sway in the breeze. As the sun starts to set, the whole place lights up with that perfect golden glow that feels straight out of a storybook. It’s like everything softens and warms up, making skin tones look amazing and giving photos that extra romantic touch. Whether you're taking family portraits, engagement photos, or just capturing the moment, Cypress Grove feels calm and inviting, with plenty of room to spread out and soak up the sunset. It’s the kind of spot where unforgettable photos just happen naturally!
Tips: The park is BIG and there are several parking lots. Make sure to arrive to your photoshoot early enough to park up, get your bearings, and meet your photographer. Personally I ask all my clients to meet me in a specific parking lot so that we aren’t on opposite sides of the park.
Cypress Grove Park
Kraft Azalea Park in Winter Park
Kraft Azalea Park is pure magic for golden hour photos! Tucked along Lake Maitland, it’s this cozy, tucked-away spot that feels like you’re stepping into another world. When the sun starts to dip, everything turns warm and golden, and the light filters through the huge cypress trees in the most beautiful way. It’s peaceful, quiet, and has this soft, dreamy vibe that makes every shot feel special. The open lawn and winding paths give you plenty of space to roam and capture those natural moments. Kraft Azalea is perfect for family portraits, engagement sessions, graduation portraits, couples portraits, and wedding photos.
Tip: For full sessions, I recommend booking for 60 minutes before sun is set to go down. Sun goes down fast, especially at this location. For mini sessions - 30 minutes before sun is set to go down.
Kraft Azalea Park
Lake Runnymede Conservation Area in Saint Cloud
Lake Runnymede Conservation Area is such a dreamy spot for golden hour! Tucked away in St. Cloud, it feels like one of those secret places where you can just slow down and soak up the sunset. With wide-open fields, huge old oaks draped in Spanish moss, and a peaceful lake that glows as the sun sets, it’s perfect for those warm, natural photos. The light here at golden hour is pure magic—it makes everything look soft and cozy, like a scene from a fairytale. Plus, it’s quiet and open, so you can explore, laugh, and get those real, relaxed shots without feeling crowded. If you're craving that rustic, sun-drenched vibe, Lake Runnymede is your spot!
Tip: It’s the same with most locations but because Lake Runnymede is surrounded by huge oak trees, you lose the light fast, therefore it’s super important to arrive early so that you don’t miss your opportunity to capture those glowy golden hour shots.

Bean Point at Anna Maria Island
Bean Point Beach on Anna Maria Island is a golden hour paradise! I go here a lot just because it’s one of my favorite places in Florida and brings me so much peace. Tucked at the northern tip of the island, it feels like a secret escape with soft, white sands, swaying sea oats, and panoramic views where the Gulf meets Tampa Bay. At sunset, the whole beach lights up with those dreamy pinks, oranges, and golds that make photos look like pure magic. It’s peaceful, not too crowded, and has this laid-back, natural vibe that brings out relaxed, genuine moments. Bean Point is perfect for capturing that sun-kissed glow, whether you’re there with family, your partner, or just to take in the view. It’s a little slice of paradise that makes every golden hour shot unforgettable!
Tip: Accessing Bean Point requires parking in a residential area, which can be a bit tricky. Be sure to arrive about 30 minutes before your session to find a suitable spot, and remember to be mindful of the island’s residents. Only park in designated parking areas, as parking in unmarked spots near homes could lead to towing. Please keep noise to a minimum and respect the peaceful lifestyle of those who live here.

Chisholm Park in Saint Cloud
Chisholm Park in St. Cloud is such a sweet spot for golden hour photos; Peaceful lake, towering trees, and wide-open spaces. A great location for anyone wanting beach vibes and rustic vibes. The golden light reflects off the water, creating a soft, dreamy vibe that makes everything look magical at sunset.
Tip: Bring bug spray because once sun sets, out come the mosquitoes. If you have little ones, bring them snacks and a drink. There’s a playground here that they will probably drag you to. There is also a soccer field. It’s a cool place for a family trip out of the house.
Saint Cloud Lakefront
Saint Cloud Lakefront is an absolute gem for golden hour photoshoots! Think beach photoshoot without the long drive. With its stunning views of East Lake Tohopekaliga, this spot has everything you need for that perfect sunset shot—wide open spaces, a beautiful dock, and a peaceful, laid-back vibe. Saint Cloud Lakefront is perfect for anyone wanting to do family photos, maternity photos, or engagement photos.
Tip: If your little ones love splash pads then consider bringing them a change of clothes. At Lakefront they have a splash pad for kids and a playground also.
Saint Cloud Lakefront
And there you have it! These are my top spots for golden hour magic. As I continue exploring, I’m sure this list will only get bigger, but I can promise you, each of these locations will give you stunning photos.

10 Must-Ask Questions for Your Photographer Before You Book (Don't Skip #9)
So, you’re ready to book a photographer? Great! Here’s something I’ve noticed in my years of snapping pics: Some clients book with little to no questions asked, while others come armed with a list. The truth is, asking questions is amazing. It helps both of us get on the same page, builds trust, and makes sure we’re going to create something you’ll love! Don’t worry if you’re not sure what to ask; here are a few key questions to consider before saying “cheese!”
1 - Can I See More of Your Work?
Sure, a photographer’s website showcases some of their best shots, but if you’re looking for more examples—especially ones that match the type of session you’re after—just ask! We love showing off our work, and it’ll help you feel confident that we’re the right match.
2 - What is your cancellation policy?
When booking a photoshoot, it's essential to know your photographer’s cancellation policy to avoid any surprises if plans change. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes cancellations or rescheduling is unavoidable. Asking about the policy upfront gives clarity on deadlines, potential fees, and flexibility, helping you understand what options are available if something comes up. This transparency can make the booking process smoother and ensure you feel supported and secure in your investment, no matter what life throws your way.
3 - How soon will I receive my Photos?
As much as you might love the suspense, it’s nice to know how long it’ll take to get your photos. Whether you’re on a tight timeline or just want to know the estimated wait, asking about turnaround time is totally fair game. (We know the feeling of tracking an online order!) If you're in a time crunch, it’s wise to schedule your session at least a month before you need the final images. Most photographers have a 2-4 week turnaround time, depending on their workload and editing process. Booking with this buffer ensures you’ll have plenty of time for any additional edits or unexpected delays and can enjoy your photos by your target date without the stress of a last-minute rush.
4 - What happens if there’s bad weather?
This question is especially important if you live in a place with unpredictable weather—Florida being a prime example. Summer months often bring frequent rain and high humidity, so it’s essential to plan ahead. I personally schedule photoshoots at times when rain is less likely, but there have certainly been occasions where unexpected showers have interrupted a session. Each photographer’s approach may vary, but every professional should have a rainy day policy that allows for rescheduling when weather doesn’t cooperate.
5 - What is your approach to posing and direction?
This is an important question that can reveal a lot about how your session will feel. Some photographers take a hands-on approach, offering detailed instructions for every pose, angle, and expression, which can be helpful if you feel unsure in front of the camera or want a polished, magazine-style look. Others prefer a more candid approach, capturing natural interactions and encouraging you to relax and enjoy the moment, which is ideal if you want photos that feel authentic and organic.
Knowing the photographer’s style of guidance can help you assess if their approach aligns with your comfort level and the atmosphere you’re hoping for. If you’re new to professional photography or tend to feel camera-shy, you may want a photographer who is encouraging and offers clear, friendly direction. On the other hand, if you’re comfortable being photographed and want more freedom to move, a relaxed, observational photographer may be a better fit. Asking about this ensures you’ll feel supported during the session and come away with images that genuinely reflect who you are.
6 - Do You Have Creative Ideas for My Session?
You’ve seen a look you love in a photographer’s portfolio, and now you want that same vibe, right? Chat with your photographer about your vision, any location ideas, or themes you love. Feel free to share inspiration, even from outside their portfolio. Photographers love collaborating to bring your ideas to life!
7 - Can I Bring My Squad (aka Friends or Family) Along?
Thinking of bringing the family, a friend, or even your pet hamster? Let your photographer know. Adding extra people can change the session’s vibe and timing, and it may affect the price. More friends or family = more coordination, but trust me, we’re happy to make it work.
8 - Am I Allowed to Change Outfits?
Want a quick outfit change mid-shoot? Most photographers don’t mind, but it’s always good to check. (And if you’re outdoors, make sure there’s a place nearby where you can change comfortably.)
9 - What location would you recommend?
Location, location, location! If you’re not sure where you’d like your session to happen, ask for suggestions. Most photographers have a list of great spots in mind and know when they’re best lit. I personally love helping clients pick locations that’ll make their photos shine.
10 - Do you have experience with my specific type of shoot
It is essential to ensure your photographer is well-equipped to handle the unique needs of your session. Different types of photography require different skill sets, and having a photographer with experience in your specific area of interest can make a significant difference in the final outcome.
Of course, these are just a few starter questions; feel free to ask anything that’ll make you feel more prepared! The more you know, the more comfortable you’ll feel, and that goes for us photographers, too—happy clients make for the best photoshoots!

Whether you’re with a loved one or just having a moment to yourself, these spots are excellent for capturing genuine expressions and interactions.
